About El Baker

I'm an Austin-based artist with an eye for adding whimsy to familiar landscapes. Initially inspired by road trips across Texas, I've painted everything from Big Bend National Park to Austin's beloved Barton Springs Pool. Now I'm branching out and painting other beautiful regions from the US and making mixed-media collages.

My artistic process is an ever-evolving dance between tradition and innovation, where the essence of landscape painting meets the bold strokes of modernity. I'm known to add photo elements to my work or to cut up a painting and glue it back together in a quirky mosaic. I work from my home studio, flooded with natural light -- I'm grateful to have space to make a mess.

With creative parents, my childhood was filled with making something and scheming up a new business. I was a good student and earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UT-Austin -- I wanted to be a designer of outdoor products, like tents and bikes. I worked for a few years in engineering and marketing and then happily became a stay-at-home mom when our daughter was born in 2019. During her naps, I started creating again and my Etsy shop organically came about from requests to sell prints of artwork I shared on Instagram.

My business has continued to grow since 2019 (I've had over 10,000 orders on Etsy!) and my prints are sold on Anthropologie.com and in many supportive small retailers nationwide. I've participated in one group show at {neighborhood} in Dallas in 2023. I live in South Austin with my husband, daughter, and son. When I'm not painting, you'll find me exploring parks with my family, going for a jog, baking up a treat, or reading a good book.

Cheers and thank you!
